I was raised around and in construction.  I was first paid as a carpenter when I was fourteen living in my own house. Over four decades later -yikes- and still wearing a toolbelt. New construction was my passion in the 70's, but the body of my work in construction has revolved around remodel and renovation. That type of work is "challenging" and no two days are the same. This encompasses both commercial and residential remodel.

During this period, I also squeezed out 10 years of college, a 2 year stint as senior engineer (Ocean Kayak), and two years working for a start-up company (Costco) getting the first stores opened on time.  But the majority of this time has been self-employed with a tool-belt on.

I have a un-quenchable desire to learn.  I've read every issue of Fine Homebuilding, Journal of Light Construction and Family Handyman since they've first come out.  As a consequence of being the "old man on the mountain", I spend a good deal of time educating and answering questions about house related issues to clients, friends and strangers on the street.  I occasionally teach classes on home-maintenance and repairs for first time home owners.  During my association with ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors), I did stints as the Chapter President and the  Education Director.

If I don't know the answer, at least I've always got an opinion, or at least I can probably send you in the right direction for the answer.
