Client & Real Estate Agent Testimonials

Gary did a great job on my recent home inspection, I was very pleased. He arrived on time and was completed within the time frame we discussed during our pre-inspection conversations. He was very thorough and detail oriented. His inspection also included walking me through the entire property pointing out his findings, suggesting corrective actions and preventative maintenance. His comprehensive report was also very meticulous and was delivered promptly. Gary's attention to detail, courtesy and professionalism have earned him a 5 star rating in my opinion, I would recommend his services to anyone I know without hesitation. "I have known Gary Southstone for more than 20 years and have hired him to do carpentry work as well as do home inpsections.  Gary know the construction trades and has a vast range of knowledge especially in older homes.  I trust Gary to be honest and fair and highly recommend him." Phil Dyer, Broker/Owner- Sterling Real Estate Group, Bellingham, WA

I have recommended Gary to my real estate clients for several years and can always trust him to look after their best interests.  When I bought a rental property myself, I chose Gary to perform the inspection.  His service doesn't stop at the inspection though, attending the post inspection walk-through is like getting a college education on home maintenance.  My clients are very grateful to learn how to care for their new purchase, what to keep an eye on and suggestions and guidance on repairs and improvements.  In my opinion, Gary is the best in his field.

I have had two occasions to use the services of Gary Southstone and his inspection service Southstone Home Inspections. First in 2003 when my wife and I downsized to a condominum. The board of this HOA had struggled with the infamous Louisiana Pacific siding issue and while not hiding it were unwelcoming of attention being called to it. Gary did his job in protecting the purchaser, wrote up the problem and even came back to a confrontational meeting to stick by his guns.
This is the kind of professionalism you do well not to forget. When I again purchased a different condominium in 2012 I asked for Southstone Home Inspections by name. Gary recalled our earlier experience and was as ever as professional, thorough and meticulus. No major problems emerged and I felt comfortable since Gary did the work. I am happy to endorse Southstone Home Inspections.

Gary Southstone has worked for me twice. The first house was a lovely South Hill classic from 1917.  At the same time I was charmed by its design and details, I was intimidated by the heating system and other features specific to older homes. Gary helped me to understand the advantages and disadvantages of this home.  His enthusiasm for historic details was contagious. His thorough knowledge helped me to relax and make an accurate assessment. I ultimately decided this classic was worth my time and investment. Gary had given me a clear picture of what would be required to restore it, and I chose to go ahead. I never regretted that decision.
Gary also inspected my current home, from a different period. I knew that I needed to downsize, but was very attached to my classic home. My current house was built in the seventies, and so I not immediately attracted to it. The price was right, and the neighborhood, so I decided to consider it.  When Gary toured the house with me he pointed out that this was not someone's spec home, but rather a much loved family home which had been updated with some expense and quality materials. Gary pointed out the areas of concern, places of recent neglect, and helped me to evaluate what would be necessary to correct these deficiencies. His ability to discriminate between minor, recent problems and something more serious helped me decide to go ahead. Again, I do not regret this decision.

I would recommend Gary without reservation. He is honest, but encouraging at the samt time. If there is an area which he cannot personally evaluate, he will point it out to you for further investigation. You will have a good idea what to expect from the house if you go with Gary's evaluation

We chose Gary Southstone to assist us with our recent home purchase.  Gary has a reputation as a thorough and knowledgeable home inspector who can inform buyers (or sellers) of issues large or small.

Gary carefully evaluated the home, pointed out any deficiencies and provided an overview of the repair costs. The inspection was also a valuable negotiating tool, helping us gain substantial concessions from the sellers.
